Year 1 · Little learner, about ages 3–5 (pre-K to kindergarten skills).

🌱 How we teach the youngest

Play first. Short lessons of 5–15 minutes, lots of talk, songs and real objects. Most of the day is off-screen.
Screens with a grown-up. About 20 minutes a day on OakCrest apps (Little Letters, Zoom Town, Little Musicians), always together.
A letter sound a week in a proven synthetic-phonics order, taught through words; numbers through counting real things.
Read aloud every day: picture books and a nursery rhyme to learn each week.
Move and play outside every day, with small jobs at home and a virtue word each week.
Check gently. One weekly check (Got it, Almost, Not yet) and a few skill checks; "not yet" means repeat, never hurry.

Assessment and records

Weekly	The week's check and skill checks on the plan page; one drawing or "writing" for the portfolio.
Monthly	Review week: favorite rhymes, letters and numbers again, at the child's pace.
Termly	Look at the skill map together; note new skills and what to repeat.
Records	Attendance through the plan, the learning log (time in each subject), the weekly reports and a small portfolio.
