How to use it
  1. Choose a browning setting with − and +. Each step adds 30 seconds.
  2. Press Press the lever, or drag down on the picture. At the bottom the switch closes and the wires begin to heat.
  3. Watch the power, the time and the energy, and watch the bread brown. When the time is up, the spring pops the toast.

Nichrome ribbon: dark when cold, orange when hotSteel case, lifted off by Look insideA two-slice toaster on 120 V. Its three elements together have a resistance of 16 Ω, so the power is P = V² ÷ R = 120² ÷ 16 = 900 W, and the energy delivered is power × time: 900 W × 120 s = 108 kJ at setting 3. The page runs ten times faster than real time. The wire temperature is a rough model: elements like these run at several hundred degrees Celsius, beginning to glow dull red at about 500 °C and turning orange as they get hotter. Never put metal into a toaster, and unplug it before cleaning.
