How to use this model
  1. Watch the dots: they are the refrigerant. Hollow dots are gas, filled dots are liquid, and the color shows the temperature, red for hot and blue for cold.
  2. Press Open the door. Watch the thermometer climb, and see when the thermostat starts the compressor.
  3. Read the table: where is the pressure high, and where is it low?
  4. Tap any part, or use ◀ ▶, to zoom in and read what it does. Take it apart lifts the lid, pulls the coil off and opens the compressor.

Evaporator: the refrigerant boils here at −25 °C and takes in heatCondenser coils: the refrigerant condenses here at 40 °C and gives heat to the kitchenA refrigerator moves heat; it does not make cold. The compressor squeezes isobutane gas (R-600a) to 5.3 bar, which heats it to about 65 °C. In the coils at the back it gives heat to the kitchen and condenses to a liquid. Forced through a thin capillary tube, its pressure falls to 0.6 bar, and at that pressure it boils at −25 °C inside the evaporator, taking heat from the food. The gas returns to the compressor and the loop repeats. The thermostat runs the compressor between 3 and 5 °C. Hollow dots are gas, filled dots liquid; color is temperature. Time runs at one minute per second.
